Three Essential Elements for a Contemporary Website

Planning for a contemporary website and know nothing about website trends and technologies?

That’s really fine, no big deal.

Let me start with some basic information about websites, your first step forward.

Shall stay crisp and no overwhelm of information.

1. Websites are of 2 basic types

  • Static website
  • Dynamic website

We built static websites during the early years of website inception period.

Static websites is more like stone age; interesting, slow, creative and learning era to meet your basic needs.

If you opt for a static website;  you build site for today, in a decade old technology and off the cuff for tomorrow.

If you prefer to live in present; awesome, exciting. I suggest you go with dynamic website, it is not only contemporary, also agile to accommodate the new.

You have a whole lot of people in this dynamic website space. Any crisis? Solution is at hands reach.

Dynamic website is features filled. They are like cuppa noodles, all in a tub. Choose your flavour and get going.

Content management is the main feature of dynamic website hence called Content Management System or CMS.

What is Content management?
Just like you login to your email (gmail / Yahoo), access mails, reply or sent new mails.

Content management System websites is similar to your email account,
you login to your website, access web page content,
edit them/create new web pages and publish them or save for future.
CMS gives you freedom to independently manage site content.

So how do you understand which is static or dynamic website?

Simple, site URLs will reveal it to you.

If web page URLs end with .html, .htm
Example – http://mysite.com/page.html. You are on a static website

If web page URLs end with a page name or numbers or combination of numbers and alphabets. You are on a dynamic website.
Example – http://mysite.com/page

There are multiple open source, user friendly CMS solutions like WordPress. I suggest you go with these ‘ready to use’ popular solutions. Popular means more support, nothing to do with cost.

Some developers like to reinvent the wheel; create their own CMS applications. Interesting, but again it consumes a lot of your time and you lag behind.

Also you don’t have the luxury to add readymade new features on the go; like in a couple of seconds.

Maintenance gets high in developer created custom made CMS. More like, preparing noodles from scratch, purchasing flour, preparing the dough, so on and so forth.

2. Responsive

Responsive means, site is usable and readable in all instruments – Desktop, Laptop, Tablet, ipad and Smartphone.

3. Fast loading

We add so many elements to spruce up site’s look and feel, site becomes code dense. With our current internet bandwidth, site loads quickly. Code density may not affect the visitor.  If there are codes slowing your site, better to strip them off. Balance between site elements and load time is important. You will surely understand this, once the site is developed or during the process.
